Are product submissions confidential?
Judges are required to keep all product information confidential until the first day of the show. Before the show, NAHB announces the finalist company names and product, which are also hyperlinked to the product's web page. If your product website page is not available before the show, NAHB can link to your company's home page instead.

How are the winners selected?
Judging is conducted by an expert panel of builders, remodelers, other industry professionals and media, from across the country. There are approximately four judges assigned to each category (Total of approx. 36 judges).

Judges designate finalists before the show and then visit all finalists in their assigned category at the show, on February 17-18. Judges have a special ribbon attached to their IBS badge so booth staff will be able to recognize judges when they visit your booth.

The judges select one winner in each of the nine categories. One of the category winners is awarded Best in Show™.

  • Innovation – The product is either new (this type of product has never been offered) or has been significantly changed and would be deemed a game-changer in its product class.
  • Functionality – The product will be well-used by the builder in/for their business or the consumer in their daily lives.
  • Good Design – The product has clean lines and is intelligently attractive for its purpose.
  • Builder/Consumer Friendly – The product will help the builder solve a specific issue, help them add to their bottom line and/or help solve a problem for the consumer or is a product a consumer would be excited to have in their home.

  • Be sure your product description makes it clear why your product is better than the competition's.
  • Be concise in your product description.
  • When asked for product website in the application process, if possible, it's best to provide a direct link to the product page on your website and not just a link to your company's website home page. Due to the number of submissions, the judges won't take the time to search around your website to find the entered product.
  • For the BEST ENERGY EFFICIENT CATEGORY, if your product has 3rd-party testing verification, be sure to mention that in the description.
