    What It's About

In this session Scott Sedam will introduce a model and Excel template builders and component suppliers can use to calculate the "True Total Cost" benefit of using off-site, factory-built components compared to traditional stick-built methods.

Most builders rarely look beyond the costs of material and labor for each approach. They then conclude the numbers do not work to justify heavier use of off-site, with the exception of trusses and occasionally panels. Yet if we look deeper into factors such as rework, quality, site waste, weather issues and variance, among a host of others, the equation begins to change. In fact, the reduction in cycle-time alone, if you understand how to calculate it, will all by itself shift the equation to favoring off-site components, with a bullet. We will show you exactly how to make these calculations and you are guaranteed to leave with a new perspective.
